Isles has recently completed the Academy 2 project, consisting of six single-family affordable homes in the Old Trenton Neighborhood. This work follows up the successful Academy 1 project, which rehabilitated five formerly abandoned buildings in Old Trenton that are now home to low-income homeowners.
Academy 2 saw the complete gut rehabilitation of six formerly abandoned historic rowhouses into brand new, energy efficient, healthy low-income homeownership units. These houses center around the intersection of Academy and Stockton Streets, near the newly redeveloped Roberto Clemente Park. They boast Energy Star appliances and heating and cooling systems, sustainable bamboo flooring, low VOC paint and finishes, and ample well-designed space for comfortable city living.
Four of the six units have been sold. Two units were sold to brothers whose mother lives around the corner. Another unit was sold to the family of a man who grew up nearby and had been watching the development of the project, waiting for his chance to become a homeowner. The fourth unit was sold to a family that is saving hundreds on housing costs over renting and becoming homeowners at the same time.
